An Apple iPad is a gadget whose functions allow it to be on the verge of displacing notebooks and laptops in the market, once it captivates potential customers.
The Apple iPad works on the same operating system as the iPhone. Its shape is like that of a black rectangular slim tile. The major part of its size is used up for a touch screen. The design is such that you cannot accidentally 'touch' the screen to activate it, since there is only one 'home' button with Apple's signature logo that an activate it. The back of this tablet-like piece is protected by an aluminum-like metal. With a thickness of about half an inch, the weight of the piece is around 600 grams.
The Apple iPad is a very useful device for surfing the net while you are on the move. It eliminates the need to carry a weighty laptop with a data card, since it performs all the functions that you would expect from a laptop or a notebook. It is much easier to carry around. You would be quite comfortable using the Apple iPad on your lap while seated. The whole gadget comes in storage capacities of 16, 32 and 64 GB. The 25-watt per hour lithium battery holds on continuous use up to ten hours. This is a built-in battery and cannot be removed. The screen resolution is very good. But unlike in a laptop, you cannot open multiple pages or applications.
Display on the Apple iPad is very good and the colors are quite impressive. But unlike a laptop which has the provision of your work not being visible for those sitting near you, the display here will not conceal your work from inquisitive eyes, since viewing angles are quite wide. There is no webcam feature. The location of its headphone jack is at the top and to some extent this is not a convenient location since the wires fall across the screen. The display can be split into various segments of the same screen that you are viewing. For example, one part of the screen can show you the list of emails in your inbox, while with the other you can open and view your mail. The sound quality is very good when you listen to music that you have downloaded from the net.
The Apple iPad works on a special micro GSM-type SIM card. It is pre-paid, and the service is currently being offered by 3G service provider, AT&T. It is purely meant for internet surfing, uploading and downloading, sending and receiving e-mails, and watching movies online. The service provider offers prepaid data plans and you can recharge your account on a monthly basis. The micro SIM card being one of a special kind is not being offered by other service providers now. But plans are afoot to popularize them, once the product catches the fancy of customers. Thereafter, the data plan rates are expected to drop as competition picks up.
All in all, the Apple iPad is expected to catch the fancy of the user in the market and is set to displace the conventional computers and laptops, especially when Apple ease their annual maintenance terms.
